Digital Painting
An image inspired by the Orthodox icon of Christ the Bridegroom used during Holy Week at the matins services. The real icon is based upon the Parable of the 5 Wise and 5 Foolish Virgins, and Christ's selfless love for His bride, The Church. He is dressed as He was when mocked by the Romans. The crowns are symbolic of his marriage to the Church, the reed is a symbol of ruling with humility, and the ropes, not pictured here, are symbolic of bondage to sin and death, broken by Christ's death on the cross and His resurrection. I am not an iconographer, I am simply inspired by them, and based on my inspirations, seek to create contemporary homages to them.
