Contemporary Orthodox Iconography
A modern and contemporary digital take on the Orthodox Christian icon. This is Saint Paul of Tarsus holding The Word close to his heart. It's interesting to look back on Christian iconography of Jesus and the saints because there are certain characteristics which are repeated and lead us to believe they were originally based on the actual likeness. For instance Paul is always shown with a receding hairline or balding and with a beard. This fascinates me. I didn't do a lot of study for this. It was more inspired by the moment and an icon I saw, but I would like to look into it more in the future. I don't know if I have the patience to do true icons, which have fairly rigid specifications for good reason - to maintain the truth - but I would like to learn more about the iconography and these likenesses.
